Green Roofs
Why should you have a green roof? Green roofs offer environmental, aesthetic and economic benefits. A green roof not only helps reduce the urban heat island (UHI) effect, it adds aesthetic appeal to your buildling and can reduce cooling costs and prolong the life of your building's roof. Look beautiful, help the environment and save money with a green roof by Four Seasons Greenery!
Green roofs range from extensive to intensive design types. Extensive designs are mass plantings of low profile/low maintenance plants. Intensive designs have a greater planting depth that allows for more plant variety and overall aesthetically pleasing environments. Both styles help counter the negative environmental effects of typical impermeable, asphalt roof surfaces by:
- Absorbing rainfall water which helps reduce runoff into our sewer systems
- Cleaning water runoff of pollutants
- Filtering the air that circulates near your roof and enters your ventilation system
- Cooling the air that is drawn into your building through your HVAC system...cooler air means less energy used! Less energy used means longer lasting HVAC equipment! Longer lasting equipment as well as the roof membrane means less waste dumped into landfills and cost savings for you!
The Solaire residential tower in Manhattan is a excellent example of a Gold Leed Certified building utilizing both intensive and extensive green roof designs. Our General Manager, Lisa Ward, toured The Solaire this past Fall as part of her training to become a certified Green Roof Professional.
